Lion’s Ledge, Baboquivari
According to O’odham spiritual belief, Baboquivari is the center of the world and the home of Elder Brother, I’itoi, the spirit of goodness, first man to walk Mother Earth, and dweller in the center of all things. Baboquivari (7,700’ elevation); its towering cliffs and crags, is the ‘cloud-veiled peak,’ the ‘lonely one’ where I’itoi lives to this day, watching over his people. I’itoi gave his people the ‘crimson evening;’ the greatest and most beautiful of gifts reflecting off the mountain with peculiar radiance. |
